I Love Doing What I Do — (Part 2)

In the 1980’s when things began to change and the Personal Computer became available, I was overjoyed.  I quickly learned to use the computer and all of the programs that I could possibly get my hands on.  During the late 1980’s and early 1990’s everyone seemed to be using the computer program application “WordPerfect” for their word processing.

Bill Gates and the whole Microsoft phenomenon emerged and changed the industry for the better.  Microsoft introduced a whole new software suite which included Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.  Microsoft Office was born.  They also introduced other software programs Microsoft FrontPage, Microsoft Money and Microsoft Publisher.  Due to that phenomenon, it was the beginning of the end for the popularity of WordPerfect.  There are some people and businesses that still use WordPerfect today though it is nowhere near as popular as it used to be.

I quickly learned to use all of the programs in the Microsoft Office suite. My favorite program out of the suite then and now is PowerPoint.  I enjoyed that program along with Microsoft Publisher because it gave me a chance to be creative.  I was especially appreciative when Microsoft decided to add animation, sound and other interesting features to PowerPoint.  The additions made the presentations and other creative works I produced come alive.

There have been many changes made to the software suite over time, all serving to make the software better and more User friendly. There’s one big change that has come about in recent years that is so different than yesteryear.  Everyone who purchases the software whether they purchase the suite or purchase each application separately, have to register and activate a separate copy for each computer they install the software on unless they purchase a multi-license package.

In years past, you could purchase one copy of the software and install it on as many computers as you wanted. The registration and activation of one copy of a software program per computer holds true for other software as well.

I was there when the personal computer phenomenon began and I am still as passionate about the computer today.  The training I received many years ago coupled with my love of typing helped create a lifelong career for me and opened many doors that otherwise would have been closed to me as well.  I have never held any position where I did not have to deal with people and/or use a typewriter or computer and other office equipment.

I learned to use many software programs and have taught and trained numerous individuals and whole companies of personnel to use the different programs.  At one of the companies where I trained their personnel, I also personally converted thousands of their documents from WordPerfect to Microsoft Word to help bring them up to date with the rest of the industry.

Today I work from home still using the computer and other office equipment.  My only regret is that I have not fully learned the technical side of the computer industry as well as I have learned to use the different software programs.  Not to worry, that is my next goal.
