I Love Doing What I Do — (Part 1)

Every now and then I will be posting information about my hobbies or something that I am doing. Today I am going to talk about one of my hobbies.

My main hobby is my love of using the computer and teaching others the many different computer applications that I have learned to use over the years.  I have always loved to type.  My parents bought my first typewriter for me when I was 13 years old.  I took Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced Typing, and Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced Shorthand, in high school and again in college.

It seems strange as I look back on it all because typewriters seem to have become a thing of the past, now that everyone has either a PC, Laptop or both, or they have a MAC.  I remember when computers as we know them today, did not even exist.  We had the Atari’s, Commodore 64’s, AT’s and XT’s.  I have very fond memories of those days.

I still have an IBM PC Jr. in my closet and one of  the first Hewlett Packard DeskJet Printers as well.  The scary thing is they are not the fastest machines on the planet but they both still work!

Hmmm…I wonder how much they would sell for on eBay today.

When I attended high school we had regular non-electric typewriters, we also had a couple of Blind Typewriters in our typing class, (Those were the ones that did not have letters, numbers or symbols on the keys and you had to commit the keys to memory). I volunteered to use one of the blind ones because I felt I would learn faster that way.  I am not bragging, but it did help me learn a lot faster and I ended up with a typing average of 95 words per minute in high school.  That was just the beginning.

More to come…

Until Next Time…
